Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated Indian FMCG major Emami Limited's manufacturing unit in Pacharia in the state's Kamrup district.
This is the largest production facility of Emami Limited in India, said R S Agarwal and R S Goenka, joint chairmen, Emami Group.
The new plant set up with total investment cost of over Rs.300 crore has a cluster facility for cosmetic, ayurvedic and healthcare and will generate direct employment for at least 1000 young aspiring candidates. Emami Ltd. has already provided direct employment to around 2000 people at its existing plants in Abhoypur and Amingaon in Assam.
Managing Director Sushil Kumar Goenka said the new manufacturing unit, which is spread across 34 acres has a total planned floor area of over 50,000 square meters.
The new plant will have a 1.1 lakh metric ton annual personal care and healthcare production capacity. The total production capacity of the group in India at present is 1.63 lakh metric tons per annum.
The company said in a statement that it intends to raise production capacity at the Pacharia plant to 2.73 lakh metric tons.

The new manufacturing unit is the first unit set up with 42 packing lines and has a capacity of producing 3000 Ml units per annum.
The new unit is the first manufacturing set up to have an automated PLC-based touch-less manufacturing facility.
The packing set up has state-of-the-art high speed machineries for tube and bottle filling.
The unit has an installed manufacturing capacity of 49140 metric tons per annum.
Including the Pacheria unit, Emami Limited has eight manufacturing units across India. The other units are located in Amingaon(Assam), Abhoypur (Assam), Pantnager(Uttarakhand), Kolkata( West Bengal) and Dongri (Maharashtra), Masat (Dadra and Nagar Haveli) and Vapi(Gujarat).
Emami Limited has has one overseas unit in Bangladesh.
The new unit with 4000-KW capacity connected electric load has provision of of automated effluent treatment plant to ensure "zero discharge" from the unit to tackle factory effluents and safe guard the environment of the region and is first manufacturing setup using solid fuel fired steam generating unit.
The Pacharia unit of Emami Ltd. is a GMP-compliant facility equipped with international standard technology. These include hi-end robotic machineries like automatic high-speed packing machine, automated tracking and monitoring systems, hi-end HVAC system and the like.
The new unit with its state-of-the-art storage and handling facility will cater to all the distribution channels of Emami Ltd. spread across India. It is an energy efficient manufacturing plant with integrated energy management system, automated manufacturing process and material management, advanced data communication platforms and process friendly green environment.
