Assam girl wins 'Best Boxer' title in World Youth Women's Boxing Championship

Ankushita Boro, a young girl from Assam, has done India proud after winning 'The Best Boxer' title in World Youth Women's boxing Championship held in Guwahati.

Hailing from Megaai Gairrani village in Assam, Ankushita Boro shone in the boxing championship, as she clinched the fifth gold by showcasing some of her best skills and tactics during her bout against Russia's Ekaterina Dynnik in the 64kg final.

"I am feeling great to have won gold and I thank everyone for their continuous support", she said.

Boro took up boxing in 2012 and her concerted efforts made her win the best boxer award at the district level in 2013, a state gold in 2015 and also a bronze medal in 2017 in youth nationals.

She was sent to Sports Authority of India's Golaghat centre where she took the first step of her journey towards becoming a boxer.

"I waited for this particular day for quite a long time; we have been practicing for more than 6 months. Finally I could secure a gold and best boxer award, I am feeling really proud to have able to bring five gold medals for India. I thankful to all, especially the crowd who supported us continuously. I am really thankful to all", she concluded.

It is worth mentioning that Jyoti Gulia in 51 kg weight category from Haryana defeated Ekaterina Molchanova from Russia; Nitu in 48 kg category defeated Zhazira Urakbayeva 5-0, Sakshi Choudhary in 54 kg weight category defeated England's Ivy-Jane Smith 3-2 and Sashi Chopra, hailing from Harayna, in 57 kg weight category, put up a fine show in Guwahati beating Vietnamese Hong DO 4-1 for gold.

Nearly 200 players from over 30 countries took part in the championship which was held for the first time in India.

Besides gold, India also secured two bronze medals through Neha Yadav and Anupama in 81 kg weight category in the championship.
