Assam polls: Sonowal, Gogoi leading in respective constituencies

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s chief ministerial Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam's incumbent Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi are leading from their respective constituencies in the counting of votes for the Assembly elections in the state.

Sonowal is leading by 3767 votes from Majuli while Gogoi is leading by 4432 votes from Titabor.

Meanwhile, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal is trailing by over 7861 votes to Congress candidate from Salmara South constituency.

Exits polls have predicted an edge for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam, while an outright win for incumbent Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is eyeing at another sweep in West Bengal with Trinamool Congress (TMC) ahead in 200 of the state's 294 seats.

Current trends show Mamata Banerjee taking a big lead of over 7,000 votes over BJP's Chandra Bose in Bhowanipur.

In Kerala, the LDF is leading in 84 constituencies, UDF in 48 and NDA in one while others are leading in seven.

Although the final picture would be clear by noon itself, Election Commission has reportedly said counting of votes will be over by 3 p.m.
