Nearly 18 people, who were participating in protests organised to mark the fourth anniversary of Egypt's 2011 uprising, have been killed in Egypt amid clashes between demonstrators and police.
Three police officers were among the dead, reported the BBC.
The clashes followed the death of an activist during a march in the capital city of Cairo on Saturday.
Security was beefed up across major cities and key locations in Cairo were blocked off, ahead of the anniversary.
Several people were killed in similar protests last year.
The 2011 uprising had ousted former President Hosni Mubarak.
