Australia continued to display superior performance as they have accumulated a formidable 459-run lead over the West Indies at stumps on day three of the second Test in Melbourne on Monday.

The hosts decided not to enforce follow-on after dismissing West Indies for 271 with captain Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh remaining unbeaten on their respective knocks of 70 and 18.

West Indies showed a remarkable resistance for the first two sessions on day three as Darren Bravo top-scoring with 81 and all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite added 59.

James Pattinson and off-spinner Nathan Lyon grabbed four wickets each to bowl out the Windies for a fourth time in the one-sided series, Sport24 reported.

First-innings centurion Usman Khawaja continued to produce rich vein of form with his breezy 56 off 61 balls before he was dismissed by Jason Holder.

Australia are leading the three-match series 1-0 after crushing the tourists by an innings and 212 runs in Hobart.
