Australia Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Tuesday greeted President Pranab Mukherjee on the occasion of India's 67th Republic Day.

"Best wishes and congratulations to you and the People of India on Republic Day," Turnbull tweeted.

He also thanked President Mukherjee for his wishes to the Government and people of Australia on their National Day.

India celebrates its 67th Republic Day today as the national capital, under a blanket of heavy security, geared for the grand celebrations.

The special attraction this year is the 35th Infantry Regiment of France and the Musical Infantry Regiment will march along with Indian troops in the parade.

French President Francois Hollande will be the fifth French president to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations over the decades.
