Australia clinched the three-match series against New Zealand after claiming a tense three-wicket win over the tourists in the game's first-ever day-night Test match at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 187, Australia lost seven wickets on day three before they crossed the victory line as Trent Boult returned to form in a superb fashion by claiming a five-wicket haul with the pink ball in their second innings.

Shaun Marsh, who found himself on the receiving end of critics after getting himself run out yesterday, was the top scorer for his side with 49. David Warner had set the tone from the very first ball of the chase and made a solid 35.

Peter Siddle struck the winning runs and was accompanied by injured Mitchell Starc, who hobbled for the second run to steal the win.

Earlier, New Zealand were bundled for 208 in their second innings as Josh Hazlewood, who was adjudged as the Man of the Match, stepped up the attack in the absence of Starc and grabbed a career-best figures of 6-70.

Australia had won the first Test in Brisbane by 208 runs and drawn the second in Perth.
