Australian Open increases prize money post plummeting currency

The prize money of the Australian Open has been increased to a record high of 40 million Australian dollars following the downfall of the currency in the past several months.

The first grand slam of the year is scheduled to begin at Melboune Park on January 19, with men's and women's single winners taking 3.1 and 2.52 million Australian dollars respectively, China Daily reported.

The organizers also revealed that the increase would be of 100,000 Australian dollars from the 3 million dollars to the single winners it announced last October.
