Investigators looking into the affairs of the Pakistan IT Company Axact have shared details of the fake degrees scam with the U.S. Embassy, claiming that most of the degrees were awarded to American citizens.
The Dawn quoted Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sources, as saying that the company's data and search and scanning of records have revealed that most of their clients were American citizens.
The sources were further quoted, as saying that investigators were waiting for a response from the American side.
The sources claimed that the FIA was also seeking help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate the case, because U.S.-based universities were also allegedly involved.
Shoaib Ahmad Shaikh, the CEO of Axact, who has been accused of running a massive fake degrees scam, was arrested on Wednesday.
Axact authorities had earlier responded to a list of detailed questions, and rejected all accusations as "baseless, substandard, maligning, and defamatory".
