A local leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was detained on Wednesday by police in connection with the recent attacks on Hindu community in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The Daily Star quoted officer-in-charge of Nasirnagar Police Station, Abu Zafar, as saying, the detainee was identified as Amirul Chakdar, a leader of Nasirnagar upazila unit of the BNP.
Islamists had vandalised at least five Hindu temples and ransacked over a hundred houses of the minority group on October 30 following an alleged Facebook post.
Soon after this, violence spread as several attacks were carried out on the Hindu community repeatedly and houses of the minorities were also set on fire.
The attacks have led to widespread criticism all over the society and protests are being held from all corners of Bangladesh over these attacks.
