Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Wednesday called for the Vedas to receive international recognition at par with that of yoga, citing the reason as it being the most ancient scriptures.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given an international status to yoga by proposing the celebration of the 'International Yoga Day'. We hope that even the vedas will get international recognition and believe that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, such an occurrence shall take place," Ramdev told mediapersons here.
"The vedas are the most ancient of the scriptures and are the most ancient books of knowledge. Thus, they should be recognized internationally," he added.
Last week, the United Nations (UN) adopted and declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
The idea for declaring an International Day of Yoga at the UN was formally proposed by Prime Minister Modi when he visited New York for this year's United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
