Babri Action Committee lawyer Zafaryab Jilani on Tuesday charged Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with having a transformed attitude in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition case because of a change of government at the Centre.

"At this moment, we are feeling that the CBI is not proceeding in accordance with the law and in delivering justice. Therefore, we had approached the Supreme Court through Haji Mehboob. And Haji Mehboob had approached the high court in 2003 also when Advaniji was discharged..and the SC had set aside the order of discharge," said Jilani.

"So, this role of CBI, we have witnessed in this case, that in the past also, when NDA came, they dropped Section 120B. When the magistrate dropped the proceedings against Advani, then CBI did not file the revision," he added.

Jilani further said that when the government changed in 2004, the same CBI supported their revision.

"So, we have seen, in this particular case, the attitude of CBI is changing with the change of government," Jilani added.

"So now, therefore, we apprehend that by the change of government and BJP coming into power, since all the accused persons in these cases belong to the BJP and RSS, therefore, it is most likely that the CBI will not take an interest in the manner it should take. That is why, we have had to approach the Supreme Court," he added.

Jilani's comment came hours after the Supreme Court had issued notices to BJP leader L.K. Advani and 19 others on a plea against the dropping off conspiracy charges filed against them in connection with the Babri Mosque demolition case of 1992.

The apex court has granted a month's time to the CBI and others to respond to the plea in the case.

The bench heard a plea claiming that with the BJP in power, the CBI may not make adequate efforts to get conspiracy charges restored against party leader L.K. Advani and others in the case.

The plea was filed by Haji Mehboob, a petitioner in the title suit representing the Muslim community in the Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabhoomi case.
