A court in Bangladesh on Monday granted a four-day remand for the Pinak-6 owner and his son in a murder case filed in Munshiganj in connection with the sinking of the ship in the Padma river that drowned over 100 passengers.
According to the Daily Star, Jahangir Hossain Bhuiyan, inspector of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) filed the case against six people including Pinak-6 owner Abu Bakar Siddique and his son Omar Faruque Limon on August 5, a day after the launch sank in Munshiganj with over 200 passengers on board.
Munshiganj Judicial Magistrate Harun-or-Rashid rejected the pair's bail petitions and issued the order when the pair was produced in the court seeking a seven-day remand for each of them, the report said.
Bakar was arrested in Chittagong on Wednesday, whereas, Limon was detained from Khilkhet area in the capital city two days later by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).
The double-decker Pinak-6 sank in the river in Lauhajang upazila of Mushiganj, about 30km (20 miles) from Dhaka.
Local police Chief Tofazzal Hossain said that the ferry was overloaded with passengers and capsized because the river currents were rough.
