Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the country has become a confident nation under the Awami League's guidance in the last eight years.
Addressing the nation on the occasion of the third year of her government's second tenure in power, Hasina said, Bangladesh has now been presented as a model for eradicating poverty in the shortest time by the World Bank.
"Bangladesh has been ranked among the top five economies around the world in terms of the economic development and the size of the economy has grown to more than Tk8 lakh crore," the Dhaka Tribune quoted Hasina, as saying.
Hasina said Bangladesh has been ranked 44th in terms of GDP and 32nd in terms of purchasing power in the world.
She said the country surprised the world by maintaining a consistent growth rate of 6.5 percent.
Highlighting her government's initiatives in infrastructure and socio-economic development, Hasina said her government has extended electricity to 80percent of households and social benefits have been taken to marginalised communities.

She said the women's representation has been ensured in every level of local government and added that her government has initiated efforts to strengthen the local government structure.
Hasina urged countrymen irrespective of their party or ideology to be part in the development process of the nation and leave a prosperous, livable Bangladesh for the future generations.
