A Bangladesh court has refused to grant bail to spinner Arafat Sunny after he was charged for uploading sensitive photos of his girlfriend on social media.

Confirming the news, Metropolitan magistrate Zakir Hossain revealed that another court which deals with internet-related crime would now hear the bail application.

"The court directed us to move to the cyber court to seek bail. It also asked the jail authorities to look after the health of Sunny as he was sick," the Dawn quoted Arafat's lawyer as saying.

On Sunday, Arafat was arrested by Bangladesh Police after a complaint was filed by his long-time girlfriend Nasrin Sultana against him under the country's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act at Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka earlier this month.

The woman, who also claimed that she and Arafat had been married since 2014, also filed a separate lawsuit against the spinner, accusing him of seeking dowry worth millions from her family.

Arafat, however, denied all the accusations levelled against him.

If found guilty, Arafat could be jailed for up to 14 years and could be fined 10 million dollars under the country's internet law, which local right groups say is being used to crack down on dissent.

The 30-year-old, who made his last appearance for Bangladesh in World T20 in India in March 2016, has appeared in 16 ODIs and 10 T20Is since making his debut in 2014.
