A writ petition has been filed by rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra with the High Court seeking its directives to the government to explain the steps being taken against the people responsible for attacks on the Hindu community in Nasirnagar.

The writ urged the court to issue a rule, asking why the failure to protect Nasirnagar Hindus and their temples and houses should not be declared illegal, reports the Dhaka Tribune.

The petitioner appealed to the court asking it to order the authorities concerned to explain under which authority the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Officer-in-Charge of Nasirnagar had addressed a rally before the attack in Brahmanbaria.

At least 10 temples were vandalised and hundreds of houses belonging to Hindus were ransacked by a mob on October 30 following an alleged defamatory Facebook post by a Hindu youth.

More than 100 people were injured in the attack which was attributed to local influential people by the victims.

Three leaders of the ruling Awami League's Nasirnagar unit were suspended by the party for their involvement in the attack.
