A Bangladeshi student working as a clerk at an LA gas station was shot dead by an unidentified black man in his mid twenties.

Authorities are on the hunt for the gunman who killed a gas station clerk in the Los Feliz neighbourhood of Central Los Angeles early Tuesday, officials said, reported Dhaka Tribune citing local media reports.

According to LAPD officer Aareon Jefferson, the shooting was reported to be around 5:25am at a Chevron station located at the intersection of Los Feliz Boulevard and Vermont Avenue.

"A male black in his mid 20s made a transaction with that clerk and stayed in the store. Another patron made a patron and left the store," Meghan Aguilera, LAPD spokeswoman, said at a news conference on Tuesday.

"At that time when the store was empty, that original male black suspect approached the cashier again," she added.

Officials said the suspect appeared to be getting ready for another transaction, but pulled out a gun and opened fire.
