Terming the farmer suicide in Jantar Mantar during the Aam Aadmi Party's rally as unfortunate, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Wednesday said inquest proceedings are on in the matter.
"The incident is highly unfortunate. Our inquest proceedings are on. Won't comment on any allegations, our department is working well. Joint Commissioner of Police will look into all aspects of the matter," said Bassi.
Earlier in the day, a farmer from Rajasthan, identified as Gajendra, committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at the Aam Aadmi Party's rally in Jantar Mantar.
As per reports, a suicide note was found that revealed the farmer, who had three children, was banished from his house after his crop was damaged. He took the extreme step because he had no means of support his family.
The incident also sparked criticism for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, with opposition parties condemning that the rally went on despite the grave incident.
