Bayern Munich came out with a stupendous performance as they thrashed Arsenal 5-1, which included three goals in a span of 10 minutes in the second half, to win the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match on Thursday at Allianz Arena, Munich.

The Carlo Ancelotti's side have now effectively guaranteed themselves a place in the Champions League quarter-finals after romping to a second 5-1 thrashing over the Gunners in successive seasons.

The Arsene Wenger's side, who have been eliminated in the first knockout round of the competition in each of the last six seasons, were never in the game as they not only conceded five goals but over 75 percent possession in Germany.

Arjen Robben (11'), Robert Lewandowski (53'), Thiago Alcantara (56' and 63') and Thomas Muller (88') scored the goals to leave the Gunners facing yet another last 16 exit, reports goal.com.

The lone goal for Arsenal was scored by Alexis Sanchez in the 30th minute of the game.
