Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is likely to miss the rest of the football season after suffering a left foot injury against Tuesday's clash against Real Madrid.
The 31-year-old sustained the injury during the extra time of his side's 2-4 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash.
Although Neuer remained on the pitch for the rest of extra time, he was clearly seen in discomfort and hobbling down the tunnel after the final whistle.
Reflecting on the injury, the club said that Neuer would now require to undergo a thorough examination to know the further process of treatment.
"Manuel Neuer suffered a fracture to his left foot in the 4-2 defeat away to Real Madrid according to an initial diagnosis. Neuer will undergo a thorough examination on arrival in Munich prior to a decision on the appropriate treatment," the Independent quoted the club as saying.
Neuer had recently returned from injury after missing three fixtures for his side last month. His absence was keenly felt as Hoffenheim defeated Bayern to end their 20-match unbeaten streak.
Bayern now have a total of seven games remaining in hand this season, provided they beat rivals Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final of the German Cup.
