The Board of Control for Cricket in India has condoled the death of former Maharashtra player Sunil Gudge.
A leg spinner and a useful lower-order batsman, Gudge (56) passed away on Tuesday at his home in Pune following a heart attack. He played 55 first-class games and three List A matches in a career spanning close to 15 years.
He later became a match referee and officiated in 17 first-class games, 10 List A games, 11 T20 men's and seven women's T20 games, 17 Ranji matches and over 50 age-group matches.
Gudge, an important member in the Maharashtra line-up with 110 first-class wickets including five five-wicket hauls, also played two India U-19 matches against Pakistan U-19 in a tri-series also involving Sri Lanka U-19 in 1978-79. He also scored first-class hundred and even registered five half-centuries.
