Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the 'beauty' of democracy is that despite belonging to different factions and ideologies, people can come together to work towards achieving common goals.
"In a democracy, threats do not work. For the 14 years that I was the CM of Gujarat, I received many threats of being sent to jail. But remember, this nation did not bend even during the Emergency. The country should follow its laws. I had said it from the Red Fort- every Government, every prime minister, every state government has contributed to India's progress," said Prime Minister Modi in reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address in the Rajya Sabha.
"I said it in Lok Sabha and I am repeating it here: the projects are new but the issues they are meant to tackle are old. We too have many shortcomings, but if we work together, we can tackle them together and that is the beauty of democracy," he added.
