Rajasthan Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore on Thursday said that four Kashmiri students, who were arrested and later released for allegedly cooking beef in a Chittorgarh College, were apprehended by the police as a 'precautionary' measure.

"It was just a precautionary measure, the students were released respectfully," Rathore told ANI.

According to reports, the four students - Shakib Ashraf, Hilal Farukh, Mohammad Maqbool and Shaukat Ali - were released on bail yesterday after being presented before the magistrate.

The students were also charged for assaulting a journalist and damaging his equipment.

Some reports say that the students were beaten up over rumours that they were cooking beef in their hostel room.

The police have, however, denied reports that the students had been beaten up.
