The DC extended movie universe has already been panned by critics all over the world. The only hope that was left, just got shattered into bits and pieces, with actor Ben Affleck stepping down as director of the upcoming solo Batman movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 44 year-old Affleck, who was set to both star in and helm the project, was quite passionate about it, but had to leave the director's chair, as he believed he is not able to give his cent percent to both jobs.

The 'Live By Night' star said, "It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require."

But he could not stop saying about how he is still fully committed to the project.

He added, "Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world."

According to a source, the decision was not taken in haste.

The studio has come out with a statement which says, "Warner Bros. fully supports Ben Affleck's decision and remains committed to working with him to bring a standalone Batman picture to life."

It is stated that this decision was taken with mutual consent of both parties and both believed it would be best if someone else takes the director's seat.

The release date for 'The Batman' solo film is still undecided. The movie also stars Joe Manganiello as villain Deathstroke.

Ben Affleck played the role of Dark Knight in last year's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' and 'Suicide Squad' and is all set to reprise it in 'Justice League' releasing this November.
