Bengaluru-Ernakulam train derails: Suresh Prabhu to visit spot(Updated)

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is likely to visit the spot where nine coaches of the Bangalore- Ernakulam express train derailed this morning, killing at least eight people.

The mishap took place this morning at around 7.45 a.m. in South Western Railway, Bangalore division. The accident happened between Hosur and Anekal road station.

The Public Relations Officer of Railway Board said relief and rescue operations are underway but there was no authentic information on the casualties.

"Our relief and rescue team has reached the spot along with the medical train. Ambulances have also been rushed to by the state administration. We are trying to find out the people trapped inside the coaches, while the injured have been sent to hospital," Anil Saxena, Railway Board PRO told ANI.

"At this stage there are some casualties suspected but there is no authentic information as of now. Our focus at this stage is more at the relief and rescue operation," he added.
