People in Bhutan's capital Thimphu are looking forward to the two-day visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and are all set to give him and his accompanying delegation a warm welcome.
Prime Minister Modi will arrive in Thimphu on Sunday morning along with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and other senior Indian Government officials.
"I would like to congratulate the new (Indian) Prime Minister. Our country has good relations with India, and the new Prime Minister will also strengthen relations with Bhutan, and there will be good links between India and Bhutan in the near future" said a Bhutanese local.
Another Bhutanese citizen said, "We welcome him in our country, and we are very happy that he chose our country for his first foreign visit. The prime minister's trip to Bhutan will further strengthen Indo-Bhutan relations."
In anticipation of Prime Minister Modi's visit, Bhutan is retarred roads and repainting road dividers along the expressway, while other roads have been decorated with colorful flags and posters with messages of welcome. Tree saplings have also been planted, reports the daily, The Bhutanese.
The road from the Paro Airport to Taj Tashi, the hotel where Prime Minister Modi is expected to stay during his two-day visit, has also been cleaned up.
The paper said that Thimphu has also been retouched.
A suite for Prime Minister Modi, and nearly 50 rooms for the Indian delegation accompanying him, has been booked at the Taj Tashi, the report added.
