The father of former Formula One racer Jules Bianchi has confirmed that he has started legal proceedings against the International Automobile Federation (FIA) following an unsatisfactory inquiry by the sport's governing body into the Frenchman's accident.

Bianchi passed away in July last year after succumbing to brain injuries sustained in a crash at the Japanese Grand Prix in 2014. He had been in coma since crashing his Marussia car into a recovery vehicle in wet conditions at Suzuka.

London-based law firm, Stewarts Law, who is representing the Bianchi's family, has revealed that they are planning to sue the FIA, Marussia team and Formula One Group in relation to the late F1 driver's crash.

It said that the letters sent to the FIA explain the reasons why Bianchi's family feel that the action of one or more parties had contributed to their son's accident, adding that it also invites them to accept the errors they had made while planning , timing, organizing and conducting the race in Japan, the Guardian reported.

Reflecting on his decision to take legal action, Philippe Bianchi said that he was seeking justice for Jules and that he wants to establish the truth about the decisions that led to his son's death.

Jules became the first F1 driver since Ayrton Senna, who was killed at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, to die from injuries sustained during a race.
