Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijendra Gupta on Saturday said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was politicising the rape of two minors by pointing a finger at the Central Government.

Gupta also accused Kejriwal of trying to distance himself from the issue of women security in the city.

"The incident is unfortunate and such incidents should not repeat. The statement given by Kejriwal is even more unfortunate, it shows that he is shirking from his responsibilities. He had promised before polls about giving security to women, now they cannot distance themselves from the women security issue in Delhi," Gupta told ANI.

"His statement is politically motivated, and he is trying to draw political mileage out of it. No party has the right to politicise such incidents," he added.

Kejriwal on Saturday sought an answer from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the gang rape of two minors, while urging him to intervene.

"The Delhi police are under absolutely no democratic control. Who holds the responsibility of the Delhi Police report? The Prime Minister says that he has the police under him, so he should answer on this issue, but we won't remain silent," Kejriwal told the media here.

A week after the horrific rape and torture of a four-year-old girl in Delhi, two more cases of minor girls being gang-raped have been reported from the capital. Both the girls have suffered severe injuries and are recovering in hospital.
