Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Thursday staged a massive protest against senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti, who has been accused of domestic violence by his wife, outside his residence here.

Women activists also protested outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence and showed black flags to Bharti, who was on his way to meet the former.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Barkha Singh urged Kejriwal to take a stance in the matter.

"Kejriwal ji should come forth, take a stance in this matter and help solve this," she said.

Bharti had earlier refuted allegations of domestic violence levelled by his wife, Lipika Mitra, accusing her of demanding the eviction of his mother from their house.

Earlier on Wednesday, the DCW had served a notice to Bharti after the allegations surfaced against him.

Bharti's wife had alleged that she has been facing violence at his hands since 2010 and added that she wants a separation in order to live with her children 'with dignity'.
