Following the recent breakup of the 25-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra, BJP leader Nalin Kohli said here on Sunday that his party's only aim now was to free the state from the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
"Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena have been long associates of ours, now that we are contesting the elections separately, our single focus is to rid Maharashtra from the inept government of the Congress-NCP combined, which has not delivered governance and development, scams have taken place of mega proportions," said Kohli.
He also appealed to the people of Maharashtra to give a clear verdict to the BJP in the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, just like the Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP ended its 25-year-old alliance with the Shiv Sena earlier this week and decided to contest the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections with smaller allied parties.
Along with the BJP-Shiv Sena breakup, the NCP and Congress also ended their alliance over dispute on the allocation of seats in the state.
The Union Cabinet, meanwhile, gave its nod for imposition of President's rule in the state after Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan submitted his resignation.
