Condemning Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Mahesh Sahu's 'beimaan' remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday demanded the former's apology, while stating that the BJD is scared and frustrated of the saffron party's success.

"We condemn Sahu's statement against our Prime Minister. We also raised our voice in the assembly against his statement. BJP won the Odisha panchayat elections leaving behind BJD and Congress. The Biju Janata Dal is frustrated of the fact that BJP is growing and people of Odisha are voting in our favour. The party has become scared of our success," BJP leader Pradeep Purohit told ANI.

Purohit said that the MLA must tender an apology for his 'derogatory' remark against the Prime Minister else they would not let the assembly function.

The Odisha Assembly today witnessed an uproar after BJD MLA Sahu's controversial remark against Prime Minister Modi.

"The most ungrateful person of the society is seated on responsible position. He (Prime Minister) insulted the people of Odisha. The word beimaan isn't sufficient to define him," Sahu said.

"Odisha contributes about Rs. 80,000 crore annually to the Centre. About 50 percent of India gets electricity by using coal produced in the state. Still, Prime Minister Narendra Modi could dare to insult Odisha at a public meeting in Uttar Pradesh," he added.
