The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday expressed their condolence over the death of former union minister and Planning Commission deputy chairman Mohan Dharia.

"Mohan Dharia will be remembered as a committed leader and a dedicated social worker who touched many lives. Saddened by his demise," Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi tweeted.

Former BJP President Nitin Gadkari, echoing similar sentiments, said that Mohan Dharia's demise is an immense loss to him and the entire nation.

"No one can forget Mohan Dharia. He was an inspiration to me. He was a guide to me, and it's an immense lose for me and this nation too," he said.

Dharia, 89, passed away in a private hospital in Pune on Monday morning.

He was admitted to Pune Hospital in Sadashivpeth for treatment of a kidney ailment last Saturday, but failed to recover.

He was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan in 2005 for his social work.
