The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday dubbed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's 'kisan padyatra' as
'repentance yatra', saying that he should repent for the failure of the policies which were not implemented during his party's regime in Maharashtra.
"The yatra of Rahul Gandhi should be named as repentance yatra. He should repent for the failure of the policies which were not
implemented during the Congress regime in Maharashtra," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI here.
Patra stated that the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reported the maximum number of suicides committed in Maharashtra during the
Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) rule from 1995 to 2013.
The BJP spokesperson also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre for its pro-farmer initiatives.

"As far as the present government is concerned, in a very short span of time the government has lent all that it can to the farmers from a
7000 crore release package to a complete policy makeover for the Vidarbha area which is water deplete," he said.
Earlier in the day, the Congress vice-president began a day-long 'kisan padyatra' from Amravati to highlight the farmers' woes.
Gandhi would travel about 175 kilometres, including a 15-kilometre walk, through villages of Gunji and Shahapur in Dhamangaon Railway and
Rajhna and Tonglabad in Chandur Railway talukas which have seen highest number of suicides this year.
He would also interact with the affected farmers and families of those who committed suicide. The Congress vice-president would discuss the
agrarian crisis with them and also talks about the remedial measures required to be adopted to solve it.
