The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is gearing up for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections scheduled next year, will hold its first national executive committee meeting on June 12 and 13 in Allahabad to chalk out strategies to silence the opposition in the politically crucial state.
The BJP is expected to highlight the recent critical statements made by the Congress top brass, including party chief Sonia Gandhi, for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the two-day meet.
The move comes just days after the BJP registering a triumphant victory in Assam.
Prime Minister Modi will address a rally in Allahabad on June 13.
The saffron party's decision to choose Allahabad as the venue for its national meet comes at a time when the district Congress leaders appealed to their party to invoke former prime minister Indira Gandhi and project the Nehru-Gandhi family's association with Allahabad while also citing it as Indira's 'janmabhoomi'.
The BJP had last held its national executive committee meeting in Uttar Pradesh in June 2011, a year ahead of the state assembly elections in which the party performed miserably.
The party had suffered a decline in the state until a dramatic comeback in the last Lok Sabha polls where it emerged victorious in 71 out of the 78 Lok Sabha constituencies it contested.
