Congress leader Manish Tewari on Thursday said that the alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) was based on compromise and sacrifice of 'national interest' in Jammu and Kashmir.

Tewari was reacting to BJP chief Amit Shah's statement in which he said that his party would not compromise on national interest and could end its alliance with PDP, if 'Kashmir issue' was not solved.

"The 'Nikaah' [marriage] between the BJP and the PDP was premised on the sacrifice of national interest. National interest is being sacrificed on a daily basis in Jammu and Kashmir, people are being released, who are not only separatists but are hardcore terrorists with linkage to Pakistan. The BJP is on the high horse of rhetoric, BJP is culpable in the compromise and sacrifice of national interest in Jammu and Kashmir," Tewari told ANI.

Earlier on Tuesday, Shah had said while addressing BJP workers in his assembly constituency Naranpura that the government in Jammu and Kashmir has been formed to solve the Kashmir issue. He had further said that nobody can stop BJP workers from leaving the coalition if the solution of Kashmir issue is not found.
