Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, who stirred a controversy by questioning the authenticity of surgical strikes, on Thursday said that the way the whole episode was politicized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got him riled up.
Nirupam said he believes that no one should politicize matters of national security.
"I was angry over the politicization which was done by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in regard with the surgical strikes. I believe one should not politicize matters of national security. Our party never politicized any surgical strike. This is not first of its kind strike, BJP should tell this as well," said Nirupam.
Earlier this week, Nirupam controversially raised doubts about the strikes.
"Every Indian wants #SurgicalStrikesAgainstPak but not a fake one to extract just political benefit by #BJP," he tweeted.
Attacked for the comment, he later clarified, "I'm not saying you release all video footage, I don't think so either. as it may not be in the interest of national security. but there is a need to show some proof."
The Congress Party, however, distanced itself from his comment, saying that the surgical strikes that took place on terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) were not fake.
