The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday hit back at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for his diatribes against the NDA Government on its first anniversary, saying the 'happy birthday boy' must now realise that the entire nation is celebrating as it is free from the clutches of the 'loot ki sarkar'.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also used the occasion to criticize former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, saying never before in the history of Indian politics had the office of the top post become a seat of ridicule.
"And similar kind of thing was happening in their organisation also. The power position of their organisation, the second most power position, I would say the vice-president's power position in Congress during that tenure had been reduced to a power position of ridicule," said Patra.
"Yes, I point towards Rahul Gandhi, who wished happy birthday to the NDA Government only yesterday, from Kerala. Mr. Gandhi we thank you for having wished us happy birthday and definitely Mr. Rahul Gandhi who is quite used to celebrating birthdays. He is a happy birthday boy and surely would wish us birthday. But Mr. Gandhi it is not that the country is happy for only the happy birthday of the NDA Government, but the country is very happy for the fact that we are celebrating anniversary of freedom from 'loot ki sarkar'," he added.
Patra also hit back at the Congress for releasing a one-year report card of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and alleging that the ruling dispensation at the Centre had broken all promises and boastful claims made in the last one year.
"There is a glossy booklet which the Congress has come out with. ......Such a party has come out with a booklet and in the booklet (there) is nothing, but hallucination with statistics which the Congress is very good at. Such is the gloss of the book that if a percentage of this gloss would have been reflected to Congress, then the result would not have been what we had seen in 2014," said Patra.

"And if you go through the booklet, you will realise that the Congress has done what it is best at, fudging figures. They had fudged figures when they had declared their budgets from fiscal deficit to all the figures as to how they used to fudge them. All these efforts that they had put in fudging figures, if they would have put in ten years of governance, then they could have gained a few four to five more seats," he added.
Patra further said that the Congress Party is opposing the government without facts and figures.
"If they are opposing without facts and figures, this government has really worked wonders," he added.
The Congress vice-president had yesterday referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a fashion icon and said that the 'suit-boot ki sarkar' should stop the oratory and start action, for the nation would
not accept them in the present form after five years.
Gandhi also alleged that Prime Minister Modi's policies were for the benefit of his 'industrialist friends'.
"Narendra Modi ji won the election because of his industrialist friends, so obviously he cannot hurt their interests," he added.
