Former external affairs minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Saturday condemned Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik's remark on the Ram Temple and said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) says one thing and then goes back on it.
"They say one thing and then they go back on it. If they are saying that it is the people who want it, for a Governor or a person holding a high office is not acceptable. He obviously said something much more than what he claims he said," said Khurshid.
"That Supreme Court is looking into the matter. The High Court has taken a decision. And if again that person is saying something, it seems to me to be very irresponsible but he wants to go back on it now," he added.
Khurshid further said that the ruling BJP should come clean and say that this is what they want instead of trying to change the entire landscape.
"They should come clean and say that this is what they want to do. But trying to change gradually the entire landscape into being something other than what our constitutional aspiration is, is very sad and tragic," he added.
The Uttar Pradesh Governor had earlier on Thursday sparked a controversy with his remark that a Ram Temple should be built in Ayodhya.
"People of the nation want Ram Mandir to be made, that wish should be fulfilled as soon as possible," Naik had said.
