Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja on Wednesday accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to destroy the country's secular democratic fabric and communal peace and creating a revocable ethnic communal conflict.

Raja, who was reacting to Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh's remark that the word "adhinayak" should be omitted from the national anthem and replaced with "mangal", said it is an absurd demand.

"National anthem was written by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and he was the author of the national anthem, and nobody has the right to change his version, and if this minister has courage, ask him to say we do not agree with Rabindranath Tagore's version of the national anthem, then, let him see what happens in the country," Raja told ANI.

"The BJP should understand that it cannot raise all such issues just to create communal tension all over the country and should be condemned for all such provocative statements made by its ministers, those who are in power, and why is this BJP minister raising this issue at this point of time," he added

The CPI leader alleged that there is an agenda behind such comments.

"The agenda is to destroy the secular democratic fabric of the country, destroy the communal peace in the country and create a revocable ethnic communal conflict all over the country that is what BJP is trying to do," said Raja.

"This BJP minister should realise this, and whatever he has said, is totally unacceptable and condemnable" he added.

Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh had earlier said that the word "adhinayak" in the national anthem should be omitted and replaced with the word "mangal" as the word "adhinayak" signifies the British empire.
