After the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) passed a resolution to join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Saturday, the Congress said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should change its name to the BJP-United.
Speaking to ANI, Congress leader Tom Vadakkan felt that the merger was inevitable.
"This was bound to happen. This isn't about the JD(U). It is about the BJP. They should change their name to the BJP-United."
He also said that the real JD(U) must be left in the hands of its founder Sharad Yadav.
Earlier on Saturday, the JD(U) on Saturday passed a resolution to join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) during the party's national executive meeting chaired by leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The political move that makes the ruling party in Bihar officially an ally of the NDA at the Centre comes weeks after Nitish broke ties with the Grand Alliance parties - Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal - in the state and re-formed the government in alliance with the BJP.
