The Congress Party on Tuesday reiterated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should be held accountable for Other Backward Caste (OBC) Bill not being passed in the Rajya Sabha, as its own members are voting against it.

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said, "If somebody should be held accountable for OBC bill not getting through in Rajya Sabha, it's the BJP itself, which intentionally kept its members away from Rajya Sabha.

While Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said, "The law that BJP brought, its own members did not vote in support to it. That is why the law failed and they are wrongly blaming Congress for it.

"Will BJP President Amit Shah & Prime Minister Narendra Modi would tell that 27 percent reservation was given to backward class by Congress. Will Modi tell who organized backward class, did Congress not?," he added.

The government on Monday had to face an embarrassing situation in the Rajya Sabha when it could not ensure passage of a bill to confer constitutional status on the Backward Classes Commission with the opposition succeeding in amending an important provision.
