Janata Dal (United) leader Ali Anwar on Sunday said that the BJP should not make the Land Acquisition Bill a prestige issue, adding that the latter should take the opposition into confidence and make appropriate changes in the existing law.
"Ours is a constructive opposition, we are not opposing it (Land Bill) just for the sake of opposing, we are opposing it because it is against the farmers. We have said it before that BJP and NDA shouldn't make this an issue of prestige," Anwar told ANI.
"Talks should be held so that the farmers and the nations benefit from it. If they should take the opposition into confidence and make improvements in the bill then we will see," he added.
Earlier, the Janata Parivar had disassociated itself with the Congress party days after they marched to Rashtrapati Bhavan under the leadership of its president Sonia Gandhi over the protest against Land Acquisition Bill.
The Janata Parivar has decided to launch a separate agitation against the Land Acquisition Bill as they do not want to be seen supporting the Congress party.
