The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday accused Akhilesh Yadav led-Samajwadi Party (SP) of being arrogant in stopping its protest with use of force.
"The way the police are throwing stones and lathicharging a peaceful protest, it looks like the Samajwadi Party is steeped in arrogance. The way the police are reacting and throwing stones on a peaceful protest is an attack on democratic values," a BJP worker told ANI.
BJP workers were staging a protest outside the CPM office against the alleged breakdown of law and order in the state. They were brutally thrashed and water canonned on the orders of the state government.
State BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya had said on Tuesday that the party will raise issues of lawlessness, unemployment, atrocities against women and corruption among others in the state assembly, and stage protests on the streets.
He said the MPs from all over the state will gather in Lucknow who will join BJP district chiefs and other party functionaries to hold demonstrations on the streets.
