The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said that it would contest elections in Bihar without electing a chief ministerial candidate and would elect one after the polls are over.

"BJP is leading the NDA ends in Bihar. We will go to elections without declaring our chief ministerial candidate. After the elections are over, the party will decide who it should be nominated. So any declarations now or any announcements have no validity from the NDA front," said BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao.

The BJP has joined forces with Upendra Khuswaha's Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP), Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and former chief minister Jitan Ram Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) for the assembly elections in Bihar, scheduled to be held later this year.

However, the coming together of RJD, JD(U), Congress and NCP under the Janata Parivar presents a very formidable challenge to the NDA in the assembly elections to be held later this year.
