Former Tottenham and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell has reportedly claimed that he would have been England's captain for 10 years if he was white, slamming the Football Association as 'institutionally racist'.
Campbell, who won 73 caps for England but only captained them three times, has also claimed in his biography that his former Tottenham teammates are to blame for false rumours about his sexuality.
According to the Guardian, Campbell has written that he had the 'credibility, performance-wise' to be captain as he was consistently in the heart of the defence and had captained a club early on in his career.
Campbell has further written that it was alright for FA to have black and mixed-race captains in the under-18s and under 21s but not for the national team, adding that there was a 'ceiling', which he believes to be 'made of glass'.
Campbell reportedly called on the FA to ensure that more people of ethnic minority origin were given chances in the hierarchy and said that the scenario had to start changing because it was just not about representing English football.
