Blast near peace committee leader's vehicle leaves 2 dead in NW Pakistan

At least two people were killed and three others injured when a bomb went off near the vehicle of a peace committee's leader in Pakistan's northwest Swat district on Tuesday morning, local media reported.

ARY news channel said that some unknown militants detonated a roadside planted bomb with a remote control device as soon as the peace committee leader's vehicle passed near it at about 7:40 a.m. local time in Mangor area of Swat, an administrative district in the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The committee leader Mian Shirazi alias Jaja Khan, who is also a local leader of a political party, sustained injuries while his son and a bodyguard got killed in the attack.

The injured were shifted to Saidu Sharif hospital where two of them including Jaja Khan were reportedly in critical condition.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Police cordoned off the blast site and kicked off a search operation in the area to hunt down the culprits.
