The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said the militant attack in Assam, which has resulted in the death of over 70 people, could have been prevented and added that Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi needed to introspect on the issue of providing improved security for the people across the state.
BJP spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh described the militant attack as an extremely unfortunate incident.
"The state government has accepted that intelligence centers and security forces were not active at that time. It could have prevented if action would have been taken on time. It's time for the Assam Chief Minister to introspect why his machinery lacked in providing security to the people," he said.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is holding a meeting with the district administration at Biswanath Chariali in violence-hit Sonitpur district. Singh arrived in the state last evening to assess the situation and held meeting with the Assam Chief Minister and top security officials.
The security forces are maintaining a strict vigil at the violence-hit areas.
Earlier on Tuesday, the banned outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) attacked innocent villagers following which indefinite curfew has been imposed in five police station areas of Sonitpur district.
According to reports, the State Home department has instructed the administration of all the districts to remain alert.
