The voting for the 40-member Bodoland Territorial Council is scheduled to take place in Assam today, amidst tight security.
The polling will take place across 2,778 booths in the Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri districts of the state. Of these, 678 polling booths have been identified as very sensitive while 996 booths have been identified as sensitive.
The BJP, Congress, Bodoland Peoples Front, AIUDF, Asom Gana Parisahd, Peoples Coordination for Democratic Rights and the Left parties are among the parties contesting the elections.
A reported 80 companies of security forces have been deployed across the region to ensure smooth elections. The Indo- Bhutan border has also been sealed for security reasons.
