Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday said that his government would take strict action against those responsible for botched up cataract surgery camp held at the Barwani district hospital, which claimed the eyesight of over 20 people.
"The government has taken the loss of eyesight due to cataract surgery in Barwani very seriously. None of those responsible would be spared," Chouhan tweeted.
"The state government will ensure that the victims get full medical care. The government will bear all the medical expenses," he said in another tweet.
At least 32 people developed infection after the cataract surgery in Barwani district hospital.
According to reports, 22 people have lost their vision after surgery.
The eye camp was organised from November 16 to November 24.
The patients, mostly elderly men and women, are now undergoing treatment for eye infection at a hospital in Indore.
