The Madhya Pradesh Government on Friday suspended an eye-specialist and five nursing staff in connection with a botched up cataract surgery camp held at the Barwani district hospital, which claimed the eyesight of over 20 people.
"The team that we had sent from Indore have analysed the incident. We have found shortcomings in the pre-operative procedures. The protocol that needed to be followed was not followed," Principle Secretary (Health) of the state government, Gauri Singh told ANI.
"We have suspended the eye-specialist there and five from the nursing staff, who were responsible for the maintenance of Operation Theater," she added.
At least 32 people developed infection after the cataract surgery in Barwani district hospital.
According to reports, 22 people have lost their vision after surgery.
The eye camp was organised from November 16 to November 24.
The patients, mostly elderly men and women, are now undergoing treatment for eye infection at a hospital in Indore.
